Google+ Brand Pages Topping Google Search Results

Hey Hubzers,

It’s official, Google is flexing it’s search enginge muscles and making the G+ expereince look mighty fine for brands.

KO: Google+ brand pages are officially appearing above Facebook and Twitter pages, right on top of the first page.

Out of “About 580,000,000 results” for T-Mobile, the primary results are a Google circle jerk.

Recipe for a  Google Search Results Sundae:

First off we have our Google Ads on top of our results like maraschino cherries. Next lies the company’s official website which is extended by tGoogle+ brand page results. These juicy treats are followed by Google Places and News results for whatever brand your heart desires.

LOOK:

Timeline may be easy on the eyes but there is officially nothing prettier than a Google+ brand page.

Officially this serach result VIP treatment is only for brands that have a site eligibile for Direct Connect, “Content from the +Page, such as recent posts, will appear as annotations attached to its associated web page under the sitelinks in search results…It uses the same bi-directional link and algorithmic criteria as Direct Connect.”

Nevertheless, people make a social network happen, not brands. It wasn’t until Facebook and Twitter started to gain popularity with users that brands came running and social media marketing was born in the first place.

Many brands will become more active on Google+ but what about the users base (still to be desired)? Google+ runs the risk of becoming a a defunked brand desert, like an abandonded shopping mall.

Regardless, as this power move illustrates– Google has the resources to make their infant social network work happen. Google+ may even add a few more users to the network by dangling the platform in the world’s face.

Recent developments regarding Google’s integration of Google+ brand pages in primary search results have raised concerns of anti-competition.
