How to NEVER see the Facebook Ticker or Top Stories…

Facebook released the Ticker and Top Stories/Recent Stories last week and many are complaining about it and are confused by it.
Rightfully so. Facebook tends to take for granted that people will poke around and figure things out on their own. They’ve gotten better but still have a ways to go when it comes to training about new features.
But, did you know you don’t have to EVER see the ticker or the Top Stories if you don’t want to?
Yes it’s true… And here’s how
Facebook in reality has given the users alot more control over what they see on their newsfeed. But most aren’t aware of it.
All you have to do is setup your Lists with the friends and in some instance pages that you want to hear from and then select that List instead of the Newsfeed!
Check out this video as I show you how to do it:
Once you do that you’ll only see posts from those on that Lists. And as a bonus the Ticker is no where to be found! And there are NO ads!
See.. Facebook isn’t so bad afterall people!!!
Take a look below to see what I’m talking about:

I have the opposite problem. My profile has not changed at all. I had a ticker for two days then it went away? Can not get anyone to help. Any ideas? Thanks
Good info. If people want to be removed from ticker they can't by an option under privacy or anywhere for that matter. However you can ask your friends or in some cases game neighbors to unselect items from the Subscribe link when they hover on your name. I like the ticker but sometimes feel its a little too stalker for me and how I grew accustom to FB. They have never been about privacy either... they never will be =/
Outstanding! Info I learned here will make all the difference in the world to my FB experience. Thank you!

They already know who your friends are on Facebook otherwise you wouldn't be connected to them... If you want that stuff kept secret from Facebook you probably shouldn't be on Facebook.. ~Scott Ayres
right-so make sure we tell facebook who are real friends and family are and then the ticker will go away-great idea-so much for privacy.
Well for me I don't even notice the Ticker.. I am rarely on my newsfeed to even see it honestly.. And when I am I just glance at it and maybe find something to comment on and go about my business. ~Scott

Sure Susan...My pleasure. ~Scott
Thanks for sharing this very useful information Scott, I have many friends that will appreciate this :-)
@Teach- Alot of people are distracted by the Ticker and don't understand the new newsfeed so this is a great work around for them. ~Scott
@Vivian- it's very simple to do now with the new Smart Lists and FB has already set alot of them up for you. You should also go check out www.circlehack.com can set up your lists super fast. ~Scott
...so that's why I've never seen the ticker...because I already have my lists implemented!
Can not see the point in turning this thing off!!
Good post Scott. I only have the ticker when I use apps lol but it will be useful for people i know. I know I don't get it either, i've got the new timeline (but published for everyone on oct 4th) and am liking that
The majority of ppl are not going to take the time/effort to categorize friends/pages into lists. Its too much work/time consuming. Just sayin'
Thanks Lamont! Just trying to help out as much as I can! ~Scott Ayres
Great job Scott. Tks
you don't show how to remove the Ticker you just show how to avoid seeing/using it... (but it still exists)

@KellyMorris Glad it was helpful Kelly! I've used lists for well over a year so I honestly didn't think the newsfeed change was that big of a deal.
I hate to sound like a dork...but you are my new hero!!! Was not currently following you ....but now I intend to be your stalker!
@KellyMorris Feel free to stalk me! Just don't put any rabbits in boiling pots!! haha
i love how u said everyone has alot of control they just don't realize it cuz its so true! I get so danged tired of listening to ppl whine and complain that they have no control and I just am like wow really, maybe if you took a few minutes to check things out and figure out how to make facebook work for you using lists which, mind you, i have told many of my friends to do and they do not listen, but if they used these lists it gives u so much control, even with your privacy settings! Ppl need to quit whining and use facebook to its fullest potential and not just games!
And ya I love the timeline too, it's so pretty and clean, love the light colors and to me it seems more streamlined, wish they do something more like it across all of facebook but again everyone is already whining about it! grrrr shut up already lol
@jen7677 I agree Jen. People just listen to others whining and assume they need to whine too. The new version of Facebook I think is the best ever! It will continue to grow as our hub of activity on the net.
But if you use the Lists you don't have to see the changes and in reality will be more engaged with your friends. Plus like you said the beauty of viewing activity on a List is you can quickly just post to that list and not have to worry about that post being public.
Oh and it works on the mobile devices too!
