Case Study: How Project Nursery Created a Formidable Online Presence in Less Than Three Years
Project Nursery opened its website in 2008, and now barely three years after, they have become one of the go-to site for moms and moms-to-be when it comes to nursery ideas, DIY parties and baby products. Project Nursery has also been nominated for and has won several industry awards, along with the trust of other bloggers and baby products manufacturers. In fact, they have been chosen as one of Babble.com’s Top 50 Design Blogs for Moms.
The Project Nursery Experience
The website is really a delight to navigate on. It has a simple interface that combines chic design with simplicity.
It is going to be very difficult to get lost on Project Nursery. They have different interfaces for each section that is customized for utmost usability.
For example, their blog section follows a blog format that we are all used to, with full entries listed one after the other. But when you visit their galleries, you are treated to a page that is similar to a photo album. It also features an intuitive search column that allows you to search by user class (designer or non-designer rooms), gallery type (showers, birthdays, nurseries, play rooms, etc.). Soon you would be able to search for rooms according to your preferred color scheme, style and budget!
User-contributed content: Galleries
At the moment, there are more than 30,000 members who are actively contributing to or commenting on their project galleries, which showcase close to 1,500 parties and rooms.
These are photos of nurseries, rooms and parties that real people have. They upload it so that others could gain design ideas from real moms (and dads!) and get tips on how to get a world-class room and where to find cute stuff and bargains.
Expert advice and giveaways: Blogs
If you want expert advice, anything from beddings to wallpaper, to storage boxes, even to bibs, then you should get into their blogs. These blogs are written by design professionals, the Project Nursery staff, and even seasoned veterans in baby care products.
What’s more, Project Nursery has been giving away precious sponsored products for their readers. Not only that, they also sponsor major contests like a room makeover and a set of really expensive baby products that go out to the luckiest (and most chic) mom on earth.
Social media help
But even as Project Nursery succeeded in getting their website off the ground and becoming more popular, they did not stop there. They recognized that they need to be more shareable in order to gain more visitors to their site.
So they launched both a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Both make it easier for people to share their favorite rooms, and maybe suggest the site to a friend that they know is looking for party or nursery design ideas.
Project Nursery currently has more than 5,000 followers on Twitter and close to 10,000 likes on Facebook.
What’s more, they have a RSS feed right on their site, making it easy to get their content right in your inbox or feed reader. If you do not want to follow or like them, you can still share their blog posts via their easy share buttons that is found in each post. The same goes for their galleries.
